NOVEMBER IS ALASKA NATIVE HERITAGE MONTH

Mission:

"Celebrate the Alaska Native and American Indian Cultures and share our traditions and contributions."

Goals:

To Educate and inform others of the diverse Alaska Native groups, their traditions, way of life and contributions. To Engage and get people involved in Native dance, games and other areas of the tradition. To Encourage Community Participation with the celebration of Alaska Natives and American Indians.

HIGHLIGHTS:

KICK OFF EVENT! at THE ANCHORAGE MUSEUM OF HISTORY AND ART Join host Nellie Moore, Mayor Mark Begich, and the new Director of the Museum, Jim Pepper Henry for hors d'oeuvres great music, a raffle and “MEDICINE DREAM” at 5:30pm Nov 1st.

NATIVE CULTURES IN THE COMMUNITY! ANCHORAGE SCHOOL DISTRICT: all month artists will visit schools and business around the city to discuss native culture (Request for Artist Visit Form/ASD).

CYRANO'S THEATRE CO. Presents "MY HEART RUNS IN TWO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS AT ONCE" by Jack Dalton and "GROWING UP NATIVE IN ALASKA" by Alexandra J. Mcclanahan.

BEAR TOOTH THEATRE presents a double feature of films, highlighting culture and native life.“MISS NAVAJO” and “QALLUNAAT! WHY WHITE PEOPLE ARE FUNNY”, Nov 5th at 5:30pm and 8:30pm.
